EP News: Clinical

Abdelrahman et  al (J Am Coll Cardiol 2018;71:2319, PMID 29535066) evaluated clinical outcomes of His bundle pacing (HBP) compared to right ventricular pacing (RVP). HBP was attempted in consecutive patients at 1 hospital over a 3-year period and RVP at a sister hospital. HBP was successful in 304 of 332 consecut ive patients (92%), whereas 433 patients underwent RVP. The primary end point of death, heart failure hospitalization (HFH), or upgrade to biventricular pacing (BiVP) was significantly reduced in the HBP group (83 of 332 patients [25%]) compared to the RVP group (137 of 433 patients [32%]) (hazard r atio [HR] 0.71; P = .02).
