Han, Joohwan Park, Mingyu Lee, Hyeji Jang This paper presents a strategic framework that can help researchers collect and analyze experiences of mobility-challenged pedestrians (MCPs) effectively and comprehensively. The framework is necessary since previous studies have focused only on pragmatic quality of an environment for MCPs. Focusing on pragmatic quality may be insufficient to improve experience in walking environment of MCPs. The framework that covers both pragmatic and hedonic quality of an environment should be introduced to make researchers comprehensively understand experiences of MCPs. The framework developed in this study consists of three parts: principles of pedestrian experience, pedestrian environments, and pedestrian characteristics. The framework can be used to guide collection and analysis of the experiences of MCPs. The framework was developed in three steps. First, an initial outline of the framework was developed by a literature survey and card sorting. Second, the framework was supplemented using information obtained by in-depth interviews and field observations. Lastly, the framework was validated for its usefulness as a support tool for user research; this phase used focus-group interviews and the day-reconstruction method. As a result, we constructed four principles, four pedestrian characteristics...
