Jun 22, William McDougall: Today in the History of Psychology (22nd June 1871)

William McDougall was born. A pioneering figure in the development of modern psychology, McDougall was a founding member of the British Psychological Society (1901) and succeeded Hugo M ünsterberg as Chair of Psychology at Harvard University in 1920. McDougall wrote widely on a range of topics including instinct, emotion, habit and motivation and included among his most influential publications were 'The Group Mind' (1920) and the 'Outline of Psychology' (1923).
