A systematic review on the quality of measurement techniques for the assessment of burn wound depth or healing potential
Burn wounds are heterogeneous and continuously subject to change, which makes it difficult to determine the severity [1 –3]. Nevertheless, reliable and valid assessment of burn wound severity is fundamental to clinical decision-making. For example considering timing of surgery and choosing the right treatment protocol. In addition, adequate diagnosis may shorten the time to appropriate treatment, which is obviously beneficial for patients. A superficial burn wound will heal spontaneously whereas severe or deep wounds require surgery in the form of skin grafting.
