Maxillomandibular advancement for better sleep quality

Maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) has been shown to effectively improve respiratory parameters for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It offers high rates of success as measured by the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), subjective symptoms, and health-related quality of life measures. However, few reports address the changes in sleep quality and architecture that occur after MMA or compare post-MMA patients with normal control groups. MMA shows the ability to improve AHI, oxygen saturation index (ODI), and lowest oxygen saturation, which should translate to better sleep quantity and quality.
