Role of adrenomedullin in reproduction and endometriosis

Adrenomedullin (AM) is a peptide with several functions, including vasodilation, regulation of hormone secretion, promotion of angiogenesis, and antimicrobial activity. Production of AM is up-regulated by several factors, such as oxidative stress, proinflammatory cytokines, angiotensin II, hypoxia, and hyperglycemia. It is synthesized as a part of the precursor preproadrenomedullin. It performs various biologic functions in different systems of the body. It acts as both a hormone and a cytokine to regulate blood flow, vascular tone, leucocyte migration, electrolyte imbalance, and hormone secretion (1).
