Developing a Training Platform for Fundamental Principles of Rigorous Research (PRR) Workshop (Day 1)

This workshop is being proposed to examine the need for a platform for teaching fundamental principles of rigorous research (commonly referred to as experimental design), as well as the potential content and structure of such a tool. Accumulating data suggests that training in this area is lacking in most institutions. Efforts led by NIGMS to encourage the development of online, interactive, engaging, and freely accessible resources have thus far not generated tools that would encourage Institutions to expand training in this area. The proposed workshop stems from discussions by the NINDS Rigor Working Group (NRWG) with the general viewpoint that an inspiring platform should (1) be driven by the scientific community; (2) focus on fundamental principles that apply regardless of field or career stage; (3) serve as a practical guide for implementing these principles; (4) emphasize why procedures need done, not just how they are done; (5) serve as a tool for both educators and scientists; and (6) make use of effective educational techniques.Air date: 10/22/2018 8:00:00 AM
