Isolation and structure determination of new saponins from Pulsatilla cernua based on an NMR-guided method and their anti-proliferative activities

In this study, all thirty-six compounds were investigated for the anti-proliferative activities against five human cancer cell lines (A549, MDA-MB-231, SK-Hep-1, SNU638, and HCT116). Among them, compound 2 exhibited moderate cytotoxicity to the MDA-MB-231 and SK-Hep-1, and the IC50 values are from 61.9 μM to 66.3 μM. By contrast, compound 25 exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against all cell lines A549 (IC50 = 3.8 μM), MDA-MB-231 (IC50 = 5.1 μM), SK-Hep-1 (IC50 = 1.8 μM), SNU638 (IC50 = 4.6 μM) and HCT116 (IC50 = 0.8 μM).
