Danazol treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding in left ventricular assist device –supported patients
Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy prolongs life and improves functional capacity in advanced heart failure patients.1 The high incidence of recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), resulting predominantly from gastrointestinal angiodysplasia (GIAD), is a well-described LVAD-related complication.2 Occurrence of GIB in LVAD patients is estimated at 23% with recurrent GIB in up to one third of these patients,2 leading to frequent and prolonged hospitalizations adversely affecting quality of life.
