Mycology Day: Egypt

Mycology Day: EgyptA " Mycology Day " was held at the Armed Forces College of Medicine in Egypt to celebrate " Fungal Disease Awareness " week held by CDC in August 2017.   This was the first day of its kind in Egypt and photos and information about the event can be foundTuesday, June 12, 2018 - 13:31Updates

Two types of Ag NPs were obtained under the following conditions: 400 W of microwave power, 1 g/l NaOH, 2 g/l pectin, 10 mmol/l AgNO3, and irradiation time for 1 and 2 min, respectively. The zeta potential values of Ag NPs colloidal solutions were -39.6 and -38.7 mV, indicating that these nanoparticles were stable...

Publication date: Available online 15 February 2019Source: PeptidesAuthor(s): Manju S Devi, RB. SashidharAbstractAflatoxins are potent carcinogenic mycotoxins produced as secondary metabolites mainly by the fungi Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. Control measures to curtail the contamination of aflatoxin in food products is still a challenge. Although there are several reports on the antifungal peptides, there is no specific study on the action of antifungal peptides on aflatoxin synthesis. This work details the effect of four antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) - PPD1 (FRLHF), 66-10 (FRLKFH), 77-3 (FRLKFHF) and D4...

Publication date: Available online 14 February 2019Source: Food ChemistryAuthor(s): Ritumbhara Choukade, Naveen KangoAbstractAn efficient system for biotransformation of sucrose to fructooligosaccharides (FOS) was obtained using Aspergillus tamarii NKRC 1229 mycelial fructosyltransferase (m-FTase). Zymographic analysis confirmed mycelial localization of the FTase (36 U/g) and lyophilized fungal pellets were used for bioconversion. m-FTase had molecular weight ∼75 kDa with optimum activity at pH 7.0 and 20°C. FOS production after parametric optimization (sucrose - 50 % w/v, m-FTase dose - 4.5 % w/v, inoculum age - 4...

AshboltAbstractA column microcosm was conducted by amending crude oil into Dagang Oilfield soil to simulate the bioremediation process. The dynamic change of microbial communities and metabolic genes in vertical depth soil from 0 to 80 cm were characterized to evaluate the petroleum degradation potential of indigenous microorganism. The influence of environmental variables on the microbial responds to petroleum contamination were analyzed. De...

Abstract Two new β-carboline alkaloids, aspergillspins A-B (1-2), three new quinolone alkaloids, aspergillspins C-E (3-5), and two new isocoumarins, aspergillspins F-G (6-7), together with four known alkaloids were isolated from the marine gorgonian-derived fungus Aspergillus sp. SCSIO 41501. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configurations of several chiral carbons in 2 and 3 were further established by quantum chemical calculations of the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Their cytotoxic and antibacterial activities were also evaluated. PMID: 307619...

Publication date: 25 April 2019Source: Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, Volume 72Author(s): Marcelo César Murguía, Laura Marcela Machuca, Maria Emilia FernandezAbstractThree gemini compounds were synthesized and characterized in the search of an alternative eco-friendly wood preservative. Synthesis was carried out from N,N-dimethylamines and 2-O-acetyl-1,3- dichloropropane as linker molecule. All the synthesized molecules were adequately purified and characterized by TLC, GC, FT-IR and NMR. Their tensioactive properties were determined. All three efficiently lowered the surface tension in aque...
