Factorial structure and familial aggregation of the Hypomania Checklist-32 (HCL-32): Results of the NIMH Family Study of Affective Spectrum Disorders

There is substantial evidence that bipolar disorder (BD) manifests on a spectrum rather than as a categorical condition. Detection of people with subthreshold manifestations of BD is therefore important. The Hypomania Checklist-32 (HCL-32) was developed as a tool to identify such people.

RehmeAbstractMeyer-Weigert-Rule predicts the draining pattern of duplex ureters in bipolar renal duplications. The upper pole is normally seen as ectopic and therefore dysplastic due to obstruction, whereas the lower pole is related to vesicoureteral reflux. In our case, this rule is violated with uncrossed ureter duplex and a dysplastic lower pole in connection with obstruction.

The phrase “sacred masculine” can evoke images of patriarchal religiosity.  But it has a different meaning for today’s guest. For Miguel Dean, the sacred masculine is an ideal, embodied by a man who accepts all of his emotions, understands the connectedness of humanity, and is devoted to helping others. Join us as Miguel explains how the sacred masculine is increasingly being recognized as a new model of masculinity to replace the old ideas of what it meant to be a man. This new man embraces all of his humanity and recognizes that part of this is the courage to feel, express and honor the full spect...

In this paper, we developed a screen printed bipolar electrode (BPE) for sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) detection of aflatoxin B1 in agricultural products. The sensor uses a cathode of closed BPE as a functional sensing interface and ...

Gotlib, Brian KnutsonAbstractAlthough behavioral sensitivity to reward predicts the onset and course of mania in bipolar disorder, the evidence for neural abnormalities in reward processing in bipolar disorder is mixed. To probe neural responsiveness to anticipated and received rewards in the context of bipolar disorder, we scanned individuals with remitted bipolar I disorder (n = 24) and well-matched controls (n = 24; matched for age and gender) using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imag...

Conclusions: Results showed only small effects of mood induction on attention. This supports the view that attention deficits reflect trait variables. PMID: 31707921 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractBackgroundRecurrence rates after catheter radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for arrhythmias arising from deep myocardial substrates can exceed 40%. Failure of RFA is in part due to the inability of widely used unipolar radiofrequency ablation (UA) to create transmural lesions capable of disrupting the critical components of the arrhythmia circuit. A radiofrequency generator was custom made to deliver bipolar ablation (BA) to test the hypothesis that BA is more effective compared to UA in achieving transmurality and to determine the optimal configuration for ventricular BA.MethodsSequential UA and BA were created in por...
