Comparative pathogenesis of enteric clostridial infections in humans and animals. Of these, the enteric infections caused by Clostridium perfringens and Clostridium difficile are amongst the most prevalent and they are reviewed here. C. perfringens type A strains encoding alpha toxin (CPA) are frequently associated with enteric disease of many animal mammalian species, but their role in these diseased mammals remains to be clarified. C. perfringens type B encoding CPA, beta (CPB) and epsilon (ETX) toxins causes necro-hemorrhagic enteritis, mostly in sheep, and these strains have been recently suggested to be involved in multiple sclerosis in humans, although evidence of this involvement is lacking. C. perfringens type C strains encode CPA and CPB and cause necrotizing enteritis in humans and animals, while CPA and ETX producing type D strains of C. perfringens produce enterotoxemia in sheep, goats and cattle, but are not known to cause spontaneous disease in humans. The role of C. perfringens type E in animal or human disease remains poorly defined. ConclusionsIt has already been observed that low antibody levels are associated with recurrent CDI (Bauer et al., 2014). The findings of our clinical trial show a similar trend. Our developed ELISA test could help to conduct further research and it might be helpful in clinical use to detect patients of high risk for CDI recurrence.

ConclusionsThis study contributed to the molecular epidemiology of Sporothrix species in Argentina and the characterization of the in vitro susceptibility pattern of S. brasiliensis isolates recovered from a cat and two humans involved in this case of zoonotic sporotrichosis. Bearing in mind the “One Health” concept, the experience described in the present study highlights the need for future strategies for sporotrichosis treatment, control and prevention.

ConclusionThe acute toxicity associated with oral selenium ingestion and the blood and urinary levels of selenium in different cases of poisonings were reviewed. Mortality is a risk of acute selenium poisoning. Concentrations of selenium in blood and urine samples in non-fatal cases are close to those observed in fatal cases.

Conclusions Intentional injuries affected more males, rural and older children, school students and staff or workers. The mechanisms and occurrence times differed according to different age groups.
