"Uneasy" EMS in the Big Easy (New Orleans)

As noted in the article below from the Times-Picayune, politics appears to have reared its ugly head in New Orleans with the ouster of well respected, educated and street smart EMSDirector/Medical Director, Dr. Jeff Elder.   Fortunately Deputy EMS Director Carl Flores will remain in his post and his long tenure with New Orleans EMS will enable him to help the new medical director enhance the high-quality service provided to the citizens and visitors of New Orleans.   New Orleans EMS has some of the finest EMS providers in the country and are extremely taxed by increasing call volume, yet they are not treated equal to their fire and police counterparts in several areas, particular in pay rate and increases.    The hard working men and women of NOEMS have not had a pay increase in seven years - an injustice to these life-saving personnel.   From the Times-Picayune: Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell's new Emergency Medical Services director, Dr. Emily Nichols, has no administrative experience and no experience running a fast-expanding department. Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell's new Emergency Medical Services director, Dr. Emily Nichols, has no administrative experience and no experience running a fast-expanding department.
