Gold Cross Ambulance Celebrates 50 Years of Quality Service

In March 1968, Gene and Julia Moffitt formed Gold Cross Ambulance with partners Jared Miles and Max Schmidt.  The company had two 1968 Cadillac ambulances equipped with first-aid kits, resuscitation devices, splints, and stretchers. It was during this time that Gene was instrumental in working closely with the Utah State Health Department to create a certification program for ambulance personnel. His involvement led him to be very familiar with EMS protocols around the country, and Gold Cross Ambulance providers were among the first paramedics trained in the State of Utah.  As an ambassador for the Utah State Health Department, Gene traveled around the state teaching first aid training classes to ambulance services.   In 1984, Gold Cross added advanced life support units and paramedic training to provide critical care inter-facility transports. By 1990, Gold Cross implemented a computer aided dispatch system improving overall response time and deployment of its vehicles. Today, Gold Cross Ambulance provides basic life support, paramedic, critical care, neonatal, bariatric, and 911 services in Salt Lake County and the counties of Utah, Juab, Uintah, Iron and Washington. With a team of over 500 highly trained and certified paramedics, EMTs, and other professionals, a fleet of 145 fully equipped vehicles, and a state-of-the art emergency communications center, Gold Cross is uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive medical response to any emergency situation.
