A Young Man With Epigastric Pain After Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

Question: A 19-year-old man presented to the emergency department (ED) with upper abdominal and right flank pain. Vital signs were: temperature, 36.3 °C; blood pressure, 121/66 mm Hg; heart rate, 77 beats/min; and respiratory rate, 18 breaths/min. Physical examination revealed right flank percussion tenderness at the costovertebral angle. No bruising was present. Two weeks prior to arrival at ED, an intravenous urography (IVU) revealed a radiopa que calcified spot (3×7 mm) in right upper ureter with hydronephrosis.
