Left atrial volume: An independent predictor of cardiovascular outcomes
In this issue of the International Journal of Cardiology, Mancusi et al. [1] evaluated the effect of left atrial (LA) dilatation independently of target organ damage (TOD) on cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in young to middle-aged hypertensive patients from the Campania Salute Network (CSN). Overall, 5844 young adult hypertensive patients (mean age 50 ± 9 years, 41% women, 8% with diabetes) without prevalent CV disease or atrial fibrillation (AF) and with normal (>50%) left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction were included.
