Predicting Syncope: The First Step in a Long Journey?

Tilt table tests take time, of that there is no question. They also consume institutional resources and subject patients to a test that differs in nature from an ECG or an echocardiogram. Its purpose is to deliberately induce unconsciousness (or at least come very close). Those who have conducted tilt tests know that this can sometimes be unpleasant for the patient. Anything that minimizes the impact on the patient without sacrificing accuracy would seem like a good solution to the problem, and one potential solution is reported by Natalie Virag and her collaborators 1 in this issue.
