ConclusionsThe incidence of VTE complications after endovenous laser ablation was low. Furthermore, the value of performing postoperative ultrasound for VTE management seems to be low because the occurrence of severe VTE complications could not be predicted by lower extremity venous ultrasound. Although the perioperative detection of VTE complications by this modality resulted in the early administration of anticoagulant therapy and may have contributed to improved prognosis, the number of those patients was limited.

A 40-something male with no PMH of any kind presented  to urgent care on a weekend (cath team is at home) with cough starting 2 weeks prior and SOB one week prior. He underwent a chest x-ray:As this was consistent with " pulmonary edema vs. viral infection, " and he was transferred to the EDThe faculty physician did an immediate cardiac and lung ultrasound:Many B lines (probable pulmonary edema)Parasternal short axis cardiac ultrasound:The anterior wall is closest to the transducer and shows an obvious wall motion abnormalityFurther history:The patient denied chest pain but stated that he had had ab...

Publication date: Available online 14 September 2019Source: Journal of Cardiology CasesAuthor(s): Toshio Kimura, Yoshiharu Nishibori, Kojiro Miki, Katsunao Tanaka, Koichi Fujita, Masanori Takada, Takao Maruyama, Masaharu IshiharaAbstractEndovascular therapy (EVT) has been accepted as a minimally invasive treatment for peripheral artery disease, and its applicability has been widened with the development of techniques and devices. A long, totally occluded lesion in the superficial femoral artery (SFA) is one of the most challenging lesions for EVT due to technical difficulties in wire-crossing. Recently, intentional subinti...

CONCLUSION: The present study's case of oral anticoagulants in VTE treatment illustrated the importance of the cost perspective in the choice of therapy. If decision-making were based on drug costs only, instead of applying a health care sector or societal cost perspective, suboptimal decisions may be likely. Objective Our purpose was to establish a simple and feasible method for monitoring and controlling the 99mTc-Technegas inhaled to improve the success ratio of imaging and ensure the imaging quality. Materials and methods The relationship between the success ratio and the pulmonary ventilation counting rate (VCR) of 113 cases, the activity of perfusion imaging agents injected and the pulmonary perfusion counting rate (PCR) of another 114 cases were analysed retrospectively. And combined with the relationship between the surface radioactivity monitoring value and the SPECT probe counting rate of a pulmonary model, the e...

CONCLUSIONS: The use of antipsychotic agents among patients with a first episode of VTE and full-dose anticoagulation was not associated with an increased risk of recurrent thromboembolic events. However, antipsychotic treatment was associated with a higher risk of both VTE and all-cause mortality. Further studies are warranted to confirm these findings. PMID: 31509358 [PubMed - in process]

r M Abstract OBJECTIVE: Fast track concepts are used to reduce the risk of perioperative and postoperative complications after total knee arthroplasty. INDICATIONS: The described concepts are used for patients with indications for the implantation of a total knee prosthesis. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindications for fast track concepts are aged patients, dementia, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade IV and implantation of large revision or tumor prostheses. Contraindications for tranexamic acid are bleeding in the urinary tract, caution in cases of known epilepsy, individual risk assessment ...

Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that variant rs2227589 is associated with an increased risk of PTE in a Chinese population but no correlation with antithrombin anticoagulant activity. However, pooled systematic analysis of multiple populations showed a significant association between rs2227589 and the risk of VTE in the additive and dominant genetic model.

Abstract Mineralocorticoid receptor activation in endothelial and smooth muscle cells can promote vascular disease by increasing oxidative stress, promoting inflammation, accelerating vascular stiffness, remodeling, and calcification, altering vessel responsiveness to various vasoactive factors, thus altering vascular tone and blood pressure, and by altering angiogenesis. Here, we review the recent evidence highlighting the impact of vascular mineralocorticoid receptor activation in pathological situations, including kidney injury, vascular injury associated with metabolic diseases, atherosclerosis, cerebral vascu...
