478 cryoballoon ablation of dysplastic barrett's esophagus causes shorter duration and less severe post-procedural pain as compared to radiofrequency ablation

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is thoroughly proven to be safe and effective for eradication of Barrett ’s Esophagus (BE) and is therefore the established treatment. However, RFA is associated with significant post-procedural pain. As an alternative, the focal cryoballoon ablation system (CRYO) has recently been developed to apply cryoablation using liquid nitrous oxide. Cryoablation preserves the e xtracellular matrix and might therefore result in less pain, while maintaining sufficient depth of ablation.
