Mo1119 EARLY CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY IDENTIFIES BLEEDING LOCATION MORE OFTEN THAN STANDARD OF CARE IN PATIENTS PRESENTING WITH HEMATOCHEZIA AND ANEMIA

Patients presenting with hematochezia and anemia can have bleeding originating from the proximal gut to the rectum. It is generally accepted that an upper GI (gastrointestinal) source need be ruled out i.e. upper endoscopy is the first procedure. However, there is still no consensus as to the best primary diagnostic test to use in these patients. Thus, patients undergo multiple invasive non-diagnostic procedures, without clear identification of location of bleeding. We hypothesize, early deployment of video capsule endoscopy (VCE) in patients presenting with hematochezia/anemia would allow for higher rates of detecting location of bleeding when compared to standard of care (SOC).
