Hematopoietic stem cell fate through metabolic control

Stem cells are self-renewing, and either multi- or unipotent [1-5], and these unique capacities offer opportunities for stem cell-based therapies in the clinic [6]. Past research has implied only limited contributions by hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to unperturbed hematopoiesis, but HSCs are still believed essential to hematopoiesis under stress conditions such as hematopoietic recovery [7 –11]. HSC transplantation has therefore been a key therapeutic strategy in combatting hematological disorders [12–14].
