Father's relief as surgeons remove a huge keloid tumour hanging from his face
Father-of-eight Leon, 42, says his 'burden was lifted' when surgeons removed a huge growth from the face of the cocoa farmer from Cameroon, after a tumour grew out of wounds from a motorbike crash.
One of the first-line options to treat keloid scars is corticosteroid injection after excision of the existing scar. A thorough literature search has shown a lack of research on the injection of corticosteroid...
CONCLUSIONS: Both abnormal scar types (Hscar and Kscar) showed a unique CD34-/α-SMA+/p16+ scar phenotype, but the differences between Hscar and Kscar observed in this study were of a gradient rather than absolute nature. This suggests that scar progression to the mature normal scar phenotype is, for as yet unknown reasons, hindered in hypertrophic and keloid scars. This article is protected by copyright. Conclusion: Surgical excision combined with immediate PORT is an effective and easy treatment with good esthetic results and an acceptable recurrence rate. It should be considered for patients with persistent keloid formation after failure of other treatments and those at high risk of relapse. PMID: 31190938 [PubMed]
Rationale Keloids, dermal fibroproliferative lesions, often occur secondary to skin injury and extend beyond the margins of the original lesion. Aggressive fibromatosis (AF) is a rare condition arising from fibroblasts and is characterized clinically as a nonmetastasizing but locally invasive tumor. In this work, we present the case of a patient who developed AF in the chest 3 years after surgery and postoperative radiotherapy for keloids. Patient Concerns A 15-year-old female patient who underwent surgery and postoperative radiotherapy for keloids presented with AF in the chest 3 years after intervention. Diagnoses ...
Conclusion: Combined injection of intralesional steroids with BTX-A appears to be superior to either therapy alone and offer the best benefit of safer and more efficacious response with lesser side effects. PMID: 31184533 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSIONS: High-mobility group box 1 was found to be elevated in patients with keloids compared with their controls, suggesting its role in excessive scarring and the role of its antagonists in therapy. PMID: 31184592 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionThis case highlights one of the more serious complications of circumcision. Although penile keloids are rare, the techniques involved in traditional circumcision potentially predispose to keloid formation in a genetically prone population.
