ConclusionsThis study shows that HP plant is capable for blocking of las and rhl QS systems of P. aeruginosa. However, it was observed that ethanol, methanol and acetone extract of the plant samples did not show anti-biofilm activity against P. aeruginosa. This led us to thinking that biofilm formation was caused via another pathway such as IQS or PQS. Further studies with isolated active compounds of HP might give a better understanding of the effects on biofilm formation of P. aeruginosa.Graphical abstract

The comment thread on my " ethnicity " post digressed to Al Franken. I want to direct your attention to a lengthy discussion of the Franken matter byLaura McGann. She understands why people are so pained by his resignation and many still question it. She covers various points of view and all the arguments, but it ends up being very clear that he habitually engaged in behavior that required him to resign. The alternative would have been great damage to the Democratic party, and to women. I urge you to take the time to read the whole thing but I will give an excerpt that, I hope, makes the point.Journalists also pi...

Various people have suggested that taking a break from social networks – Twitter in particular – can be A Good Thing™. So I tried it, for a couple of weeks. Here’s what I learned. 1. Why a break? The reasons that everyone else cites, I guess. A sense that my stream has swung away from essential information towards noise and distraction, despite attempts to curate it carefully by following “good people”. A realisation that I was habitually reaching for it without thinking, or knowing why. The empty serotonin hit of checking for likes. For me, a growing sense of people existing in bubbles...
