Painless real-time proteomics may one day speed up cancer surgery

(American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) Researchers at the University of Lille developed a matrix-assisted ion source for mass spectrometry that can liberate lipids and metabolites from the skin without causing pain. Now, they have optimized protein measurement using this device. The device can be used to differentiated normal from cancerous tissues.
