Extradural motor cortex stimulation improves gait, speech, and language in a patient with pure akinesia

Pure akinesia with gait freezing (PAGF) is a variant of progressive supranuclear palsy, poorly responsive to pharmacological treatment and mainly characterized by prominent freezing of gait and dysarthria. Extradural motor cortex stimulation (EMCS) is a safe neurosurgical procedure [1], which may improve axial motorsymptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) [2] and might represent a therapeutic option in patients with movements disorders not eligible for deep brain stimulation (DBS) [3,4].
