Effects of bone marrow‑derived mesenchymal stem cell transplantation on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/obstructive sleep apnea overlap syndrome in rats. Mol Med Rep. 2019 Sep 30;: Authors: Chen M, Huang Z, Bi H, Pan X, He J, He L, He X, Du J, Zhou K, Wang L, Wang Q, Guo X, Jin Z Abstract Bone marrow‑derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) possess potential therapeutic properties for treating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is characterized by emphysema and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, their effects on overlap syndrome (OS) remain unclear. We invest...

In conclusion, high-dose NR induces the onset of WAT dysfunction, which may in part explain the deterioration of metabolic health. Towards a Rigorous Definition of Cellular Senescence https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2019/11/towards-a-rigorous-definition-of-cellular-senescence/ The accumulation of lingering senescent cells is a significant cause of aging, disrupting tissue function and generating chronic inflammation throughout the body. Even while the first senolytic drugs capable of selectively destroying these cells already exist, and while a number of biotech companies are working on the productio...

This study aims at the fabrication and evaluation of alginate-chitosan microcapsules encapsulating insulin-secreting beta-TC-6 cells using an automated spraying nozzle. Uniform spherical microcapsules (250-350 µm) encapsulated with beta-TC-6 cells were fabricated in large quantities in a short span of time. Microencapsulated beta-TC-6 cells were transplanted intraperitoneally into streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic mice and monitored for immune tolerance and decrease in blood glucose levels. Mice that received microencapsulated beta-TC-6 cells maintained normoglycemia for 35±5 days before rejection. However...

Abstract In the future, stem cell-based technologies may be harnessed to replace conventional dialysis and transplantation in patients with diabetic nephropathy. Recently, there has been considerable effort to improve methods for the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) into kidney cells in culture. Here, we present a protocol for obtaining more advanced kidney structures than have currently been possible in vitro, including vascularized glomeruli and tubular elements. HPSCs are first differentiated in 2D culture to a kidney progenitor stage. These cells are then dissociated and injected subcuta...

However, disseminated VZV infection with multiple organ involvement can occur in immunocompromised patients with impaired T cell immunity including solid or hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients, receiving immunosuppressive therapy, leukemia, lymphoma, and HIV infection. Prompt antiviral therapy is mandatory in those imm...

Christle, Clark Owyang, Khizer Shaikh, Joe L. HsuAbstractMechanical circulatory support (MCS) has made rapid progress over the last three decades. This was driven by the need to develop acute and chronic circulatory support as well as by the limited organ availability for heart transplantation. The growth of MCS was also driven by the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) after the worldwide H1N1 influenza outbreak of 2009. The majority...
