Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Diagnosis and Management Based On Current Molecular Genetics Approach.

CONCLUSION: AML is genetically and functionally a heterogenous malignant disease. In the western world leukemia is one of the most common among all cancers. India is ranked 3rd in cancer disease after United State (US) and China. Cytogenetic analysis and molecular prognostic biomarkers help in determining prognosis of the disease. Moreover, molecular biomarkers will also be helpful in redefining treatment strategies. A number of targeted drugs in pre-clinical and clinical trials have been reported to have promising results in AML patients. Recent studies have stated that not only cytogenetics and molecular genetics but also epigenetics and proteomic analysis will help us to understand the pathophysiology of the disease more precisely.
