In this study, long-term head-and-neck cancer (HNC) survivors undergoing tumor follow-up (FU) care exceeding five years in a certified HNC center of a German university hospital were analyzed for newly diagnosed late sequelae after radio-(chemo-)therapy. Patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity, larynx or oro-/hypopharynx receiving treatment between 1990 and 2010 with a tumor FU care beyond five years were reviewed retrospectively for signs of late sequelae after radio-(chemo-)therapy (R(C)T) including carotid artery stenosis, stenosis of the cranial esophagus, dysphagia, osteoradionecrosis,...

Rationale: Metastasis of neoplasms to the eye is quite uncommon. In this case report, we describe a patient where primary esophageal cancer was diagnosed by fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of an iris tumor. Patient concerns: A 70-year-old male complained of redness and discomfort in the right eye. Diagnosis and interventions: The patient's right eye was diagnosed as idiopathic uveitis, and a topical steroid was administered. As vitreous opacities were observed even after topical therapy, oral prednisolone was administered. On slit-lamp examination of the right eye, an iris mass with neovascularizatio...

Anti ‐angiogenic multi‐target inhibitor anlotinib significantly improved PFS and DCR compared with placebo in this study. Our findings demonstrated that angiogenesis targeting therapy might be an efficient therapeutic target in advanced or metastatic ESCC. AbstractBackgroundCurrently, there are no randomized trials on the effect of antiangiogenic therapy in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The following study investigated the efficacy and safety of  anlotinib in patients with advanced ESCC who were previously treated with chemotherapy.MethodsThis randomized, placebo ‐controlled, double‐...

CONCLUSION: The positive expression of VEGFR-2 and NF-kB is expected to be the molecular target of oral apatinib targeted therapy for oesophageal cancer. Apatinib has a certain clinical effect as the maintenance treatment for advanced oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients, with mild adverse reactions and high safety. ConclusionNutritional support provided by an amino acid-rich elemental diet was ineffective for reducing the incidence of adverse events caused by DCF chemotherapy in patients with esophageal cancer.

AbstractBackgroundPoor oral health is an independent risk factor for upper aerodigestive tract cancers, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The pattern recognition receptor Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) recognizes lipopolysaccharide in the cell walls of Gram-negative periodontal pathogens associated with the development and progression of ESCC. It is, therefore, plausible that TLR4 plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of ESCC.MethodsWe used an ESCC tissue microarray to confirm expression of TLR4 in patients with ESCC and to determine whether TLR4 expression status correlates with the clinicopathological ...

Conclusion The combination therapy of apatinib plus S-1 was effective and well tolerated in the treatment of advanced ESCC patients after first-line chemotherapy failure. The combination therapy has the potential to be a potent therapeutic option for advanced ESCC patients after first-line chemotherapy failure.

Conclusions: In OSCC, very low preoperative NLR values have a negative prognostic impact on survival and recurrence, similarly to high ratios. ENE and perineural spread are the most important clinical-pathologic prognosticators. Introduction Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts for more than 95% of oral tumors and is the eighth most frequent cancer worldwide, with an estimated incidence of 640,000 new cases per year (1). Survival of OSCC has slightly improved over the last 30 years, probably as a consequence of multimodal treatment spreading. However, intensified therapeutic regimens can result in signific...
