Physical Inactivity from Youth to Adulthood and Risk of Impaired Glucose Metabolism

Conclusions Persistently physically inactive lifestyle from youth to adulthood is associated with increased risk of impaired glucose metabolism in adulthood. Importantly, a moderate increase in PA lowered the risk. The results highlight the importance of avoiding physically inactive lifestyle at all stages of life.

MedAutonomic has made significant progress with its brain neuromodulation technology. The Silicon Valley and Venice, Italy-based company said it had successfully implanted the Phoenix device into the stomach wall of a human through a digestive endoscopic procedure. The device sends signals to the brain (the limbic system)to reset an imbalance in the Autonomic Nervous System with the aim to treat functional diseases such as type-2 diabetes, hypertension, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The company said Phoenix is able to harvest energy from the body, so it can remain in the stomach wall without the need of a bat...

CONCLUSIONS These results demonstrated delayed fracture healing with preexisting estrogen deficiency and T2DM. While insulin alone and combined with SR were both effective in promoting bone fracture healing in this model, their combined treatment showed significant improvement in promoting osteogenic marker expression, but not of the radiological appearance, compared with insulin alone. Ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection into the carpal tunnel is widely performed for the management of carpal tunnel syndrome. However, this injection may worsen the condition in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Polydeoxyribonucleotide was recently recognized as a substitute for corticosteroid because of its anti-inflammatory effects. A 41-yr-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus was admitted to our rehabilitation clinic with a 1-mo history of numbness and tingling in her right hand and first three fingers tips. She declined corticosteroid treatment because of a previous episode of uncontrolled blood glucose ...

Our aim was to investigate whether the protective effects of DJC by oral administration on high-fat diet (HFD) and palmitic acid-induced damages of endothelial cells are related to oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into standard chow diet (SCD), HFD, HFD plus DJC-low d...

Authors: Koch A, Weiskirchen R, Krusch A, Bruensing J, Buendgens L, Herbers U, Yagmur E, Koek GH, Trautwein C, Tacke F Abstract The adipokine visfatin, also termed pre-B-cell colony-enhancing factor (PBEF), is mainly derived from adipose tissue but has been implicated in the regulation of innate immune responses. We hypothesized that visfatin could be a potential circulating biomarker in critical illness and sepsis. We therefore measured serum levels of visfatin in a cohort of 229 critically ill medical patients upon admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). In comparison to 53 healthy controls, visfatin levels w...
