1C When Childhood Hurts: Epidermolysis Bullosa

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a painful genetic condition characterized by fragile tissues that easily blister and scar, is seen in approximately one to two out of every 100,000 live births in the United States. The blisters from EB are due to a separation of the skin from the mucosa and occur with minimal friction or trauma. Regardless of severity, there are many long-term consequences of this disease. These consequences include significant scarring, skin cancer, chronic pain, psychological issues, and a significant financial burden.
