Role of antimicrobial stewardship programmes in children: a systematic review

This review found limited evidence for a reduction in antibiotic consumption and use of broad-spectrum/restricted agents following antimicrobial stewardship programmes implementation in paediatric intensive care units. Data evaluating the impact of antimicrobial stewardship programmes on healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance in paediatric intensive care units are lacking. In addition, there is limited information on effective components of a successful antimicrobial stewardship programmes in paediatric intensive care units.
