People's Beliefs and Expectations About How Cognitive Skills Change with Age: Evidence From a U.K.-Wide Aging Survey

Provision for the rising number of people living with dementia is a major challenge for public healthcare worldwide. Currently, around 850,000 people are living with dementia in the United Kingdom.1 However, not everyone develops dementia or experiences cognitive decline, and the risk of cognitive decline can be reduced.2 For example, although genetic factors are partially responsible for cognitive variability throughout life,3 research has identified a number of potentially modifiable lifestyle and behavioral factors such as physical activity,4 diet,5 and social interaction.
