Understanding medication related fall risk pathways involving antidepressant, psychotropic, and CNS exposure

Background: Falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admission among older adults. The University of Pittsburgh Department of Biomedical Informatics developed a fall risk algorithm named Fall Sentinel that analyzes both Minimum Data Set (MDS) and medication administration records (MAR) to determine the resident ’s risk for a fall in the nursing home.
