Epigenetics of Metabolic Syndrome as a Mood Disorder.

Epigenetics of Metabolic Syndrome as a Mood Disorder. J Clin Med Res. 2018 Jun;10(6):453-460 Authors: Kesebir S Abstract Mood disorders comprise major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BD) and the milder forms of these two disorders. Reccurring MDD is also known as unipolar disorder. The distinction between unipolar and bipolar disorders was first suggested in 1957 by Leonard and was made official after support by several studies in 1980. Indeed, in 150 AD, Aretaeus of Cappadocia wrote "It seems to me that melancholia is the beginning and a part of mania". Additionally, Kraepelin, who proposed the first medical disease model in psychiatry a century ago, considered recurrent unipolar depression cases under the category of bipolar disorder and conceptualized spectrum disorders. Because today's classification systems conduct cross-sectional diagnosis, they do not consider family history, long-term characteristics and multidimensional approaches on symptoms. This method prioritizes reliability over validity and it rules out psychiatric disorders in etiology. Actually, a spectrum model which covers physical diseases is conceivable. The concept of epigenetics considers mood disorders, Alzheimer's disease, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, Carney syndrome, multiple endocrine neoplasia type I and II, breast and prostate cancers, carsinoid tumors, cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome together. This re...

In this study, we compared the effects of EFT and PMR in patients with Hwabyung.Design40 patients were enrolled and randomized to receive 4 weeks of group sessions with either EFT (n = 20) or PMR (n = 20). Evaluations were conducted pre- and post-treatment and at 4-week and 24-week follow-ups after session end.Main Outcome MeasuresThe Hwabyung Scale, Visual Analogue Scale of Hwabyung Symptoms (VAS-HS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI) were administered as self-report tools. The analysis excluded 8 patients who never attended tr...

This multistep process involves the migration of cancer cells to anatomically distant organs. Metastasis formation relies on cancer cell dissemination and survival in the circulatory system, as well as adaptation to the new tissue notably through genetic and/or epigenetic alterations. A large number of proteins are clear...

Integrins are the key regulators of critical biological functions and contribute significantly to the promotion of cancer at almost every stage of disease progr...

This paradoxical effect of chemotherapy can affect different districts such as the primary tumor, the circulation and distant organs by s...

Authors: Druschky K, Bleich S, Grohmann R, Engel RR, Toto S, Neyazi A, Däubl B, Stübner S Abstract The aim of the study was to assess rates of severe parkinsonism related to different antipsychotic drugs (APDs) using data from an observational pharmacovigilance programme in German-speaking countries-Arzneimittelsicherheit in der Psychiatrie (AMSP). Data on APD utilization and reports of severe APD-induced parkinsonism were collected in 99 psychiatric hospitals in Austria, Germany and Switzerland during the period 2001-2016. Of 340,099 patients under surveillance, 245,958 patients were treated with APDs fo...

Authors: Greiner T, Haack B, Toto S, Bleich S, Grohmann R, Faltraco F, Heinze M, Schneider M Abstract Adjustment disorder is a temporary change in behaviour or emotion as a reaction to a stress factor. Therapy consists of psychotherapy, and pharmacotherapy can be advised. However, data on the real-life pharmacological treatment are sparse. Prescription data for 4.235 psychiatric inpatients diagnosed with adjustment disorder in the time period 2000-2016 were analysed. The data were obtained from the Drug Safety Programme in Psychiatry (AMSP). Data were collected on two reference days per year; prescription patterns ...

In this study, human serum albumin (HSA) complexed with 5BMF (5BMF@HSA) has been developed to further improve its solubility (from 1.61 to 5.41 mg/mL), and the fluorescent intensity of 5BMF@HSA was improved over 2 times. Nearly 10-fold 5BMF was released from 5BMF@HSA complex in acidic condition when compared with neutral/basic environment. Intracellular distribution of 5BMF was altered by HSA as its signals were observed in lysosomes where free 5BMF barely localized. Both 5BMF@HSA and 5BMF showed selective toxicity toward tumor cells in μM and nM range and effectively inhibited tumor growth in mice model. In summar...
