Among couples being treated for infertility, depression in the male partner was linked to lower pregnancy chances, according to astudy inFertility and Sterility. In contrast, depression in the female partner was not found to influence the rate of pregnancy or live birth.Depression rates are known to be high among couples seeking fertility treatments, with previous research finding 41% of women and nearly 50% of men in such couples show signs of depression, wrote Emily A. Evans-Hoeker, M.D., of Virginia Tech Carilion, and colleagues. To investigate the role of depression on pregnancy outcomes in couples seeking non-IVF treat...

This study therefore aimed to specifically examine infertility induced psychological distress and coping strategies among women in Mali. A convergent mixed-methods design-correlational cross-sectional and qualitative descriptive-guided the study. Fifty-eight infertile Malian women participated: 52 completed the Psychological Evaluation Test specific for infertility and a question on general health status, and 26 were interviewed in-depth. Over 20% scored above the cut-off point for psychological distress, and 48% described their general health as poor. There was no significant difference between women with primary vs. seco...

In this study, the RNAs in the gonads of 1.5-year-old Japanese flounders were sequenced using Illumina. The miRNA expression profiles in the mature gonads of males and females were characterized. A total of 277 mature miRNAs were screened in both gonads. Among them, 25 miRNAs were expressed differently in the ovary and testis. Afterward, miR-1388 was selected for its high expression level in the ovary. Gene ontology analysis revealed that the target genes of miR-1388 were highly involved in cell-cell adhesion. Nectin2l, the target of miR-1388, is a Ca-independent cell adhesion molecule that was demonstrated to be testis-bi...

In this study, we investigated the mechanistic basis for improvement of semen parameters and reversal of testis damage by QLPs in a rat model of oligoasthenospermia induced by treatment with tripterygium glycosides (TGs) (40 mg/kg) once daily for 4 weeks. Rats were administered QLPs (1.62 g/kg or 3.24 g/kg) each day for 60 days, with untreated animals serving as controls. The concentration and motility of sperm extracted from rat epididymis were determined, whereas histopathological examination and immunohistochemical apoptosis analysis of rat testes was performed. Expression profiles of apoptosis-related genes were determ...

(BJOG. 2017;124:1198–1205) Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is used in many countries as infertility occurs in ∼9% of the world population. In some European countries it has been reported that at least 3% of children were conceived via ART. Severe postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and the association between PPH and pregnancies achieved by ART is unclear. The aim of this case-control study was to determine whether an association exists between ART and severe PPH as well as to determine whether any association was affected by other risk factors for severe PPH.

I often see lots of infertile patients who could get pregnant if they did IVF treatment. Unfortunately, they just cannot afford to do an IVF cycle for financial reasons, and they end up without a baby. It fair to say  that  this causes them a significant amount of  frustration and heartburn when you know that IVF can help you get pregnant; but you can ’t, because you just can’t afford the treatment. Can this be changed? But it ’s not just the patients who are affected; IVF specialists also go through a lot of anguish when this happens. It’s very difficult to come to terms with the...
