941 Molecular, physiological, and pathological backgrounds of recently proposed three subspecies of Propionibacterium acnes
Propionibacterium acnes (Cutibacterium acnes) is a predominating bacterial species on the human skin, which is considered to have a role in developing acne vulgaris, SAPHO syndrome, sarcoidosis, and various deep tissue infections. Very recently, the three types of the species are given the official recognition as three distinct subspecies ( Dekio et al. 2015 McDowell et al. 2016 ). This status is a triumph of the continuous research into the nature of these types since they were coined decades ago.
