Intrarenal Arterial Lesions Are Associated with Higher Blood Pressure, Reduced Renal Function and Poorer Renal Outcomes in Patients with IgA Nephropathy

Conclusion: Our study demonstrates the high prevalence of vascular lesions, including the chronic and acute arterial pathological changes, in patients with IgAN. The presence of vascular lesions is associated with higher MAP, reduced eGFR and poorer renal outcomes, which could be influenced by the RAS blockade treatment.Kidney Blood Press Res 2018;43:639 –650

Publication date: Available online 17 July 2018Source: The Annals of Thoracic SurgeryAuthor(s): Samuel Jacob, Erol V. BelliAbstractElectric shock–induced myocardial infarction is rare. Shock-induced coronary artery thrombosis and dissection in multiple distributions have not been reported. After shock, coronary thrombosis may cause anginal symptoms, and any coronary artery may be damaged. A 32-year-old man presented with angina and ischemia-related symptoms post 6,000-V electric shock. He reported occasional exertional angina; stress echocardiography was positive for ischemia. Catheterization showed severe multivesse...

Publication date: Available online 17 July 2018Source: Diabetes &Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research &ReviewsAuthor(s): Alexander BerezinAbstractDiabetes mellitus (DM) is the most important metabolic disease with major threat for public health and increased risk of premature death. The prevalence of DM steadily rises in developing and developed countries achieving the epidemic level. Manifestation and progression of DM corresponds to developing vasculopathies, such as retinopathy, micro- and macro angiopathies, which negatively influence on clinical outcomes and quality-of-life. Although there are remarkable diff...

ConclusionAverage peak systolic GLS and LV torsion at echocardiography done early after myocardial infarction are independent predictors of LV remodeling after anterior STEMI and can be used to predict occurrence of LV remodeling after 6 months.

Abstract Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are considered to be the predominant cause of death in the world. Chinese herb medicines (CHMs) have been widely used for the treatment of CVDs in Asian countries for thousands of years. One reason of high efficacy of CHMs in treating CVDs is attributed to their inhibition in atherosclerosis (AS) development, a critical contributor to CVDs occurrence. Cumulative studies have demonstrated that CHMs alleviate atherogenesis via mediating pathophysiologic events involved in AS. However, there is deficiency in the summaries regarding antiatherogenic signal pathways regulated by C...

Conclusions: The incidence and in-hospital mortality rate of CAVB in patients with STEMI who underwent primary PCI was reduced when compared to data from the thrombolytic era. This may be due to faster flow recovery in the infarct-related artery achieved with PCI.Cardiology 2018;140:146 –151

Conclusions: Compared with clopidogrel, ticagrelor appears to rapidly reduce the prevalence of inflammatory reactions and stabilize the functions of vascular endothelium to improve the stability of atherosclerotic plaque and decrease the occurrence rate of thrombosis as well as ischemic outcome events without any obvious increase in the risk of bleeding in patients with acute STEMI receiving urgent PCI. This renders it a potential drug for clinical practice. At the same time, measurement of ESM-1, a new biological marker for vascular endothelial function disorder, could possibly become a simple, effective, and practical ne...

We present a case of intrarenal vein thrombosis (IRVT) diagnosed by ultrasound (US). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case in the imaging literature. Patient concerns: A 15-year-old boy with a 4-year history of thrombocytopenic purpura presented to the emergency room with a 2-day history of sudden-onset severe left flank pain associated with gross hematuria. Diagnoses: Hypercholesterolemia, proteinuria, and elevated plasma creatinine level were present. The US examination showed obscurely structured, sparsely distributed arterial and venous flow signals, and an increased resistance index (RI) ...
