Bradycardia: What is the mechanism?

A 70-year old female with history of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and depression was admitted to our hospital with nausea and upper abdominal pain. Her symptoms initially started 2  months prior to this presentation when she was vacationing in Italy. She described a vague upper abdominal rash that resolved, but she continued to have sharp pain intermittently which wrapped around her abdomen. She was diagnosed to have possible shingles as an outpatient and was symptomatically managed with tramadol and gabapentin.
