Psychotic experiences among police officers working in high-stress situations

Childhood trauma is a well-established risk factors for psychosis in adulthood (Kelleher et al., 2013). Recent work has suggested that this may be mediated by trauma exposure in adulthood, which frequently occurs among individuals exposed to childhood trauma and has likewise been linked to psychosis (Bhavsar et al., 2017). Nonetheless, trauma exposure in adulthood has been less studied in relation to psychosis, with some exceptions (e.g., crime victimization; Newbury et al., 2017; intimate partner violence: Shah et al., 2017).

Conclusions: Lifetime cannabis use is associated with better working memory and processing speed and worse real-world functioning in the area of socially useful activities in patients with schizophrenia-related disorders. Clinicians should, therefore, be aware of it to provide patient-centred care in their daily clinical practice.Eur Addict Res 2019;25:111 –118

VogeleyAbstractDisturbances in time experience have been argued to play a significant, if not causative role in the clinical presentation of schizophrenia. Phenomenological considerations suggest a fragmented or dis-articulated time experience causing both primary symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and self-disorders, as well as an intersubjective desynchronization. We employed content analysis on material collected from patients diagnosed with schizophrenia...

The objective of this review is to comprehensively assess the literature on metabolomics in mood disorders and schizophrenia and provide data for mental health researchers about the challenges and potentials of metabolomics. The majority of studies in metabolomics in Psychiatry uses peripheral blood or urine. The most widely used analytical techniques in metabolomics research are nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS). They are multiparametric and provide extensive structural and conformational information on multiple chemical classes. NMR is useful in untargeted analysis, which focuses on biosignature...

These new technologies, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), genome-wide association studies...

McGurkAbstractCognitive remediation is aimed at reducing cognitive impairments in severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, but little is known about whether severity of cognitive impairment predicts benefit from this intervention. To address this question, this study aggregated data from five randomized controlled trials (N=300) of a standardized comprehensive, multimodal outpatient cognitive remediation program, the Thinking Skills for Work program, and evaluate...

CONCLUSIONS: The SH staff was able to produce valid FAST-O assessments. There are reference data which makes it possible to characterize individual patients as well as SH units with respect to treatment needs and safety aspects (for instance risk of violence). Authors: Faivre S, Roche N, Lacerre F, Dealberto MJ Abstract OBJECTIVES: The main objective of the study was to assess 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) status in a psychiatric population in France according to psychiatric diagnoses. The secondary objective was to investigate a correlation between 25(OH)D and CRP. METHODS: A retrospective study from February 1st, 2014 to January 31, 2016, was carried out in a French psychiatric hospital. Inpatients with a 25(OH)D measure were included. Variables including ethnic origin, BMI, psychiatric diagnoses, medical history and CRP were collected. Factors associated with 25(O...
