Diagnosing and treating postpartum uterine artery pseudoaneurysm.

We present a case of a 19-year-old woman 6 weeks postpartum after low transverse cesarean delivery with recurrent heavy vaginal bleeding requiring a blood transfusion. Transvaginal sonogram revealed a UAP. Embolization of the uterine artery was performed, with resolution of her symptoms. PMID: 29686554 [PubMed]

CONCLUSIONS: Hemodynamically stable patients under AT with blunt hepatic or splenic injuries (grade ≤ III) and no signs of peritonitis, may be good candidates for NOM, despite their bleeding tendency. The type of AT does not seem to influence the final outcome. Reversal of AT should be stratified individually. KEY WORDS: Antithrombotic therapy, Hemodynamic stability, Non-operative management. DiscussionThere have been no randomised controlled trials that have compared the safety and efficacy of FFP versus PCC in cardiac surgery patients who are bleeding. This pilot study will assess if individual components of a large trial are deliverable to assess the safety and efficacy of the two blood products in the future.Trial registrationEudraCT, 2018-003041-41; ClinicalTrials.gov,NCT03715348. Abstract INTRODUCTION: We hypothesised that a single preoperative intravenous dose of tranexamic acid (TXA) is effective in patients who undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA) and are at high risk of blood transfusion (preoperative haemoglobin level

Authors: Meric N, Guney Esken G, Uslu M, Kocabas F Abstract Platelet and blood transfusions have vital importance to the lives of many patients. Platelet transfusions are a life-saving intervention by reducing risk of bleeding in thrombocytopenic patients. Due to the short shelf life of platelets and their limited availability, researchers have developed various platelet transfusion production technologies. Understanding the cellular and biophysical mechanisms of platelet release is particularly important for development of platelet transfusion products (PTPs) and to translate them to clinical applications in patie...

ConclusionsBleeding requiring transfusion is an under-reported complication of hemorrhoids. Increased recognition could lead to expeditious surgical treatment and less costly diagnostic workup.

Authors: Rattanaprichavej P, Laoruengthana A, Rasamimogkol S, Varakornpipat P, Reosanguanwong K, Pongpirul K Abstract Background: Various pre- and perioperative risk factors have been reported in association with blood loss in knee arthroplasty. However, the effect of the uncovered cancellous surface on blood loss in simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty (SBTKA) by different prosthetic designs is not well elucidated. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the blood loss and transfusion rate between different knee prostheses in SBTKA and to identify risk factors that influence blood loss and transfusion aft...

Conclusions: Morbidity and mortality are the highest after rCP, but these patients usually do not have any other chance for healing. We have not performed repeat surgery for incomplete tumour resection in the last 10 years. Comparing our results to the international data, the morbidity after cCP is high, the mortality is similar. Trauma resuscitation in unstable adult and pediatric trauma patients consists of controlling bleeding, limiting crystalloids, permissive hypotension, and balanced blood transfusion. In adults it is commonly accepted that a 1:1:1 ratio of fresh frozen plasma (FFP), platelets, and packed red blood cells (PRBCs) is the ideal balance of blood products, however this has not been well studied in pediatric patients and is unknown.

Antifibrinolytics (AFs) stabilize blood clot formation and reduce bleeding. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the impact of AF use on intraoperative blood loss and the need for blood transfusion in pediatric orthopedic surgery. A systematic review was performed using Medline and Embase to identify studies that utilized AFs during pediatric orthopedic surgery. The primary outcome measure was intraoperative blood loss in ml. Secondary outcomes included blood transfusion and thromboembolic events. Pooled estimates were derived from a random-effects model. Heterogeneity was assessed using...
