Cross-Cultural Adaptation, Validity, Reliability and Clinical Applicability of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire, and its Brief Version, to Canadian French

Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) have become an essential part of patient evaluation, both in clinical and research settings. The Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) is one of the most widely-used PROM for hand-specific conditions, by therapists and surgeons alike. A brief version of the questionnaire (bMHQ) was also developed, for a clinical setting. The MHQ is composed of 6 domains: general function, ADL/IADL performance, work performance, pain, satisfaction, and aesthetics. It is the only tool to evaluate perception of the latter domain, a major component negatively affecting quality of life in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Dupuytren ’s contracture and finger amputations, as well as the only tool to evaluate both hands separately, making it ideal for more complex, bilateral conditions.
