Heterogeneity in caregiver population studies

In “Informal caregiving and metabolic markers in the UK Household Longitudinal Study”, Lacey et al. [1] state that “longitudinal studies investigating caregiving and metabolic markers have yet to account for potential modification by gender and caregiving intensity when investigating associations with health”. However, one study showed that longitudinal relationships between caregiver indicators, changes in psychological distress and metabolic markers, and new cases of ICD-9 coded Coronary Heart Disease, depend on gender and use of Hormone Replacement Therapy [2].
