Physical activity in pregnancy and postpartum depressive symptoms in a multiethnic cohort

Depression in the postpartum period has been identified as the most common complication of childbearing years (Poyatos-Leon et al., 2017), with an estimated prevalence of 10-20 % in Western countries (Dennis and Hodnett, 2007, Falah-Hassani et al., 2015). Some women have continuation of depression that presented in pregnancy. For others it is of new onset. Women who experience perinatal complications or have a co-existing chronic disease have an even higher risk for postpartum depression (Turner et al., 2006)
