1005 The skin: A new player in the control of whole-body glucose homeostasis

Psoriasis is an independent risk-factor for development of insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Here we used the imiquimod (IMQ) mouse model of psoriasis to investigate the effects of skin inflammation on insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function. To induce skin inflammation in mice, 75 mg of 5% IMQ cream (Aldara, Meda Pharma) was applied topically to a shaved dorsal region for 4 consecutive days (n = 3-8). Control mice were treated with Vaseline cream. On the fifth day, mice were either fasted for glucose tolerance testing, or sacrificed in the fed state with blood and tissues collected for analysis (qPCR, ELISA and IF).
