ConclusionThis is the first long-term follow-up study demonstrating that CKD progressing to the need for RRT can develop after TTTS. Donor-twin status and neonatal AKI associated with adverse long-term outcomes warranting long-term surveillance in this group.

AbstractBackgroundAmong children who receive a kidney transplant, short stature is associated with a more complicated post-transplant course and increased mortality. Short stature prior to transplant may reflect the accumulated risk of multiple factors during chronic kidney disease (CKD); however, its relationship with post-transplant kidney function has not been well characterized.MethodsIn the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) cohort restricted to children who received a kidney transplant, short stature (i.e., growth failure) was defined  as age-sex-specific height

Background: There is an unmet need for reliable minimally invasive diagnostic biomarkers for immunological allograft monitoring and for the detection of acute kidney transplant rejection. Here, targeted proteomic analysis was applied to compare 92 proteins in sera of belatacept-treated patients who had biopsy-proven, acute T-cell–mediated rejection (aTCMR) with patients without aTCMR. Methods: Proximity extension immunoassay was used to measure 92 inflammation-related protein concentrations in the prerejection and rejection sera of 11 patients with aTCMR and 9 patients without aTCMR. This assay uses 2 matched ol...

Conclusion: Clinical presentations of UN are broad and non-specific; nonetheless, it is important to detect early changes in order to avoid its progression. The earlier UN is diagnosed and treated, the more successful are the clinical outcomes.RESUMO INTRODU ÇÃO: A neuropatia periférica (NU) é um distúrbio que afeta o corpo celular, o axônio ou a mielina do motor ou neurônios sensoriais periféricos e ocorre em 60%-100% dos pacientes que são submetidos à diálise por doença renal crônica. A neuropatia urêmica é atribuí...

AbstractBackgroundAlthough minimally invasive procedures have been established as the standard for a donor nephrectomy, there are many different surgical techniques described in the literature. The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes of kidney transplant procedures using the pure retroperitoneoscopic donor nephrectomy (PRDN) and hand-assisted retroperitoneoscopic donor nephrectomy (HARDN) techniques.MethodsA retrospective study involving 1508 transplant procedures was conducted; 874 were PRDN procedures; and 634 were HARDN. We reviewed the outcomes of the PRDN and HARDN groups, which were performed at two differen...

Dialysis prior to kidney transplantation may have a detrimental effect on post-transplant Outcomes. However, prior studies have not fully characterized the nature of this relationship and may have been subject to residual confounding. Here we investigated the association between pre-transplant dialysis duration and two post-transplant outcomes: all-cause death and death with functioning graft. This was a retrospective, population-based, cohort study in all deceased donor kidney transplants performed in Ontario, Canada, from April 1, 2002 to March 31, 2013.
