This study was undertaken to analyze the survival of Salmonella spp. during soft-cooked eggs processing by temperature-controlled water circulator. A pool of Salmonella spp. was inoculated in egg yolks and were incubated at 37 °C, for 18 h, reaching 7.7 ± 0.1 log10 CFU/g. Contaminated eggs were processed at 62 °C for 60 minutes and samples were collected in order to investigate Salmonella survival. Results indicated that the egg center temperature reached 61.7 ± 0.4 °C after 30 minutes, completely inactivating 7.7 log of Salmonella spp. After 30 minutes of cooking, yolk remained liquid and the egg...

In Vivo Study of the Effects of ERβ on Apoptosis and Proliferation of Hormone-Independent Prostate Cancer Cell Lines PC-3M. Biomed Res Int. 2018;2018:1439712 Authors: Zhou C, Yu C, Guo L, Wang X, Li H, Cao Q, Li F Abstract Objective: To evaluate the in vivo therapeutic effects of attenuated Salmonella carrying PCDNA3.1-ERβ plasmid in hormone-independent prostatic cancer in nude mice and to clarify the mechanism by which estrogen receptor β (ERβ) induces apoptosis and proliferation in prostatic cancer cells in mice. Methods: The orthotopic prostatic cancer models of mice were r...

KumarAbstractThe aim of the present study is to investigate the antimicrobial potency of leaves from various extracts of Capparis zeylanica, Streblus asper and Tribulus terrestris were evaluated. In addition, this is the first report on MIC, MBC/MFC antimicrobial activities of above mentioned plants and also identify the phytochemical, functional groups by GC-MS and FT-IR respectively. Soxhlet extraction method was used for preparation of different extracts viz., aqueous, petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and me...

We report here that Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium harbors three transketolases that support the non-oxidative branch of the pentose phosphate pathway. BLAST analysis identified two genes, STM14_2885 and STM14_2886, that together encode a putative transketolase (TktC) with 46–47% similarity to the known TktA and TktB isoforms. Assessing the mRNA and protein expression for each of the three transketolases, we determined that all are expressed in WT cells and regulated to varying extents by the alternative sigma factor RpoS. Enzyme assays with lysates from WT and transketolase-knockout strains established that...

Streptomycin and spectinomycin are antibiotics that bind to the bacterial ribosome and perturb protein synthesis. The clinically most prevalent bacterial resistance mechanism is their chemical modification by aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes such as aminoglycoside nucleotidyltransferases (ANTs). AadA from Salmonella enterica is an aminoglycoside (3″)(9) adenylyltransferase that O-adenylates position 3″ of streptomycin and position 9 of spectinomycin. We previously reported the apo-AadA structure with a closed active site. To clarify how AadA binds ATP and its two chemically distinct drug substrates, we here rep...

A salmonella outbreak connected to raw turkey has affected 90 people in 26 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday. At least 40 people have been hospitalized due to the Salmonella outbreak, according to the CDC. There are currently no deaths associated with this outbreak, which began last November. It is unclear where the Salmonella outbreak is coming from, and the CDC said it is still looking into which supplier or type of raw turkey product is linked to the outbreak. The agency is monitoring the outbreak in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspectio...
