Urgent Chemotherapy in Sepsis-Like Shock Related to Hematologic Malignancies

Conclusions: Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome related to hematologic malignancies is associated with a dismal outcome. A chemotherapy trial may provide a fast prognostic assessment of the reversibility of organ failure.

Shunaev, Victor V. Tatarskiy, Alexander A. Shtil, Valentina A. Ol'shevskaya, Yuri N. AntonenkoAbstractBoron containing polyhedra (carboranes) are three-dimensional delocalized aromatic systems. These structures have been shown to transport protons through lipid membranes and mitochondria. Conjugation of carboranes to various organic moieties is aimed at obtaining biologically active compounds with novel properties. Taking advantag...

CONCLUSIONS: Although the use of PP-CSF is commonplace in current US clinical practice, underutilization in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy regimens with an intermediate/high-risk for FN may still be an issue. Use of same-day PP-CSF increased markedly from the end of 2015, although this finding reflects (at least in part) increased uptake of pegfilgrastim delivered via an on-body injector as well as the recent change in clinical practice guidelines. Overall, patients receiving PP-CSF appear to have a lower risk of FN during the first cycle of chemotherapy. PMID: 30550346 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Studies show its potent anti-neoplastic effects against leukemia cells. The aim of the present study was to determine the potential therapeutic effect of Fur A against colorectal cancer (CRC), and elucidate the underlying mechanism.Material and methodsCell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to determine cell, and TUNEL and Annexin-V/PI staining was used to detect apoptosis and the cell cycle distribution. The expression le...

Publication date: Available online 15 December 2018Source: Respiratory Medicine Case ReportsAuthor(s): Yang Zhao, Wei GuoAbstractPrimary pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma is extremely rare. MALT lymphoma patients usually show no clinical symptoms or physical signs. Chest radiograph or computed tomography (CT) may confuse MALT lymphoma with other pulmonary diseases, which would lead to misdiagnosis or a delayed diagnosis. In the present study, a 33-year-old male patient had cough and fever. Chest CT showed consolidation on both sides. Those clinical symptoms disappeared after he had been misdiagnos...

CONCLUSIONS: These observations suggest that BDNF Val66met-SNP has no detectable effect on the peripheral neuropathy that is induced by paclitaxel. The significance of BDNF Val66Met-SNP in pre-existing peripheral neuropathy-related conditions, such as diabetes, should be further investigated. PMID: 30550003 [PubMed - in process]

In this study, we found that TNF-α resulted in an impairment of autophagic flux in microglia. Concomitantly, an increase of M1 marker expression and reduction of M2 marker expression were observed in TNF-α challenged microglia. Upregulation of autophagy via serum deprivation or pharmacologic activators (rapamycin and resveratrol) promoted microglia polarization toward M2 phenotype, as evidenced by suppressed M1 and elevated M2 gene expression, while inhibition of autophagy with 3-MA or Atg5 siRNA consistently aggravated the M1 polarization induced by TNF-α. Moreover, Atg5 knockdown alone was suffic...

Abstract PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION: Adherence to oral chemotherapy is influenced by many factors. This qualitative evidence synthesis aimed to contribute to an interpretive understanding of the factors that act as facilitators or barriers to adherence among people with cancer taking lifelong, noncurative oral chemotherapy. LITERATURE SEARCH: A systematic search strategy was developed, and searching was undertaken across several electronic databases (CINAHL®, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, EThOS, ProQuest, PsycINFO®, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science including MEDLINE®). DATA EVALUATION: 12 reports on 10...
