Abstract PURPOSE:: To evaluate the short-term clinical and radiological outcomes with degenerative changes in patients over 40 years old following isolated vertical medial meniscal tear repair. METHODS:: Between 2007 and 2015, 438 patients underwent arthroscopic meniscal repair. Thirty-three patients aged over 40 years with isolated vertical medial meniscal repair (23 males and 10 females, mean age 46.1 ± 7.0; range 40-67) were included in the study. Preoperative and postoperative physical examination findings, Lysholm knee score, the International Knee Documentation Committee score, magnetic resonance...

Conclusion: Despite the use of CIC in 85.7% of the cases, the continence rate in MMC patients operated on in utero was low and 78.6% of the patients used diapers. This data can be used to educate parents about future conditions of their 5-year-old children and may stimulate the debate regarding further attempts (surgical or not) to improve fecal and urinary continence.Fetal Diagn Ther

Authors: Mehranfar S, Abdi Rad I, Mostafav E, Akbarzadeh A Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major cause of disability across the world, which its prevalence is relatively high in elder population. Current accepted therapies such as exercise, anti-inflammatory drugs and intra-articular inoculation of corticosteroids are aimed at controlling symptoms in the affected patients. Surgical options including arthroplasty, osteotomy and joint replacement are other choices of treatment, which are invasive and can be applied in case of failure of conventional therapies. In the last few decades, efforts to treat musculoskelet...

ConclusionHemicircular myotomy of the distal esophageal pouch can be employed successfully to achieve primary repair in cases of long gap esophageal atresia. This technique does not require full circumferential mobilization of lower pouch as required with full circular myotomy and has less risk of compromising blood supply to the distal esophageal pouch decreasing risks of anastomotic leak, failure and esophageal motility of lower pouch.

AbstractOrbital fractures with orbital wall defects are common facial fractures encountered by oral –maxillofacial surgeons, because of the exposed position and thin bony walls of the midface. The primary goal of surgery is to restore the pre-injury anatomy and volume of hard tissue, and to free incarcerated or prolapsed orbital tissue from the fracture by bridging the bony defects with reconstr uctive implant material and restoring the maxillofacial–orbital skeleton. Numerous studies have reported orbital fracture repair with a wide variety of implant materials that offer various advantages and disadvantages. ...

AbstractAs a drug class, inhibitors of poly-(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) have had their greatest impact on the treatment of women with epithelial ovarian cancers (EOC), in particular, those with the most common histological subtype, high-grade serous cancer, as it has high rates of homologous recombination (HR) deficiency. PARP inhibition exploits this cancer vulnerability by further disrupting DNA repair, thus leading to genomic catastrophe. Early clinical data demonstrated the effectiveness of PARP inhibition in women with recurrent EOC harbouringBRCA1/2 mutations and those with platinum-sensitive recurrences. Three PA...

FINDINGSResearchers from UCLA ’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center have identified a possible new therapeutic strategy using two types of drug inhibitors at once to treat one of the world’s deadliest cancers. The combination approach uses one drug that inhibits the process — known as lysosome — that allows cancer cells to recycle essential nutrients to survive, and another drug that blocks the pathway used to repair DNA. Researchers found the approach to be promising after testing it on pancreatic cancer cells and mice in the laboratory.BACKGROUNDPancreatic cancer, which is the third leading cause...

Publication date: Available online 20 March 2019Source: The Journal of Foot and Ankle SurgeryAuthor(s): J. Randolph Clements, Ajay K. GhaiAbstractDisruption of the plantar plate is a common cause of forefoot pain, metatarsalgia, and metatarsophalangeal joint malalignment. Although surgical repair of the plantar plate has improved, there has been no consensus on the clinical superiority of any single technique, or combination of techniques, described in the literature to date. In this publication, we report a case of plantar plate injury treated with an innovative new technique with 20-month follow-up.
