Organization, Quality and Cost of Oncological Home-Hospitalization: A Systematic Review

Worldwide, cancer is a major threat to public health. The social as well as economic consequences remain significant for patients and societies [1 –3]. The World Economic Forum estimated direct costs of cancer treatment and attended costs of income losses at US$ 290 billion in 2010 [4]. Within the European Union, total cancer costs were estimated at €126 billion in 2009, whereof €51 billion accounted for healthcare [1]. Given the increas ing incidence and prevalence as well as the advanced screening and treatment modalities, there is no doubt cancer costs will only expand [4–7].
