CONCLUSION: Our study shows that SM can decrease the amount of necrosis in burn wounds by increasing tissue perfusion and neovascularization. PMID: 29656662 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Authors: Iorio O, Petrozza V, De Gori A, Bononi M, Porta N, De Toma G, Cavallaro G Abstract INTRODUCTION: Hypoparathyroidism still represents an important concern in thyroid surgery. Careful dissection with identification and preservation of parathyroid glands in situ remains the best way to maintain gland vitality and avoid post-operative failure. Nevertheless, parathyroid glands are still inadvertently removed in up to 11% of cases. Parathyroid autotransplantation may represent the only way to restore parathyroid gland functionality in case of inadvertent removal or devascularization during thyroid surgery. Despi...
Authors: Chen B, Li Z, Chen J, Ji J, Shen J, Xu Y, Zhao Y, Liu D, Shen Y, Zhang W, Shen J, Wang Y, Shi Y Abstract Body mass index (BMI) is the most commonly used quantitative measure of adiposity. It is a kind of complex genetic diseases which are caused by multiple susceptibility genes. The first intron of fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) has been widely discovered to be associated with BMI. Retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator-interacting protein-1 like (RPGRIP1L) is located in the upstream region of FTO and has been proved to be linked with obesity through functional tests. We carried out a genetic associa...
Conclusion: Given that the majority of surveyed physicians support MMJ as an option for patients, few are registered and have adequate knowledge of MMJ. Although our study sample is small and geographically limited, our survey results highlight key physician issues that are likely applicable to practitioners in other states. Concerted efforts are needed at the federal, state, and academic levels to provide practitioners with evidence-based guidelines for the safe use of MMJ. PMID: 29662957 [PubMed]

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of obesity on the pharmacokinetics of the serotonergic antidepressant vortioxetine. Methods Vortioxetine pharmacokinetics were evaluated in 16 otherwise healthy obese volunteers (mean weight, 119 kg; mean body mass index (BMI) 41.8 kg/m2) and in 14 normal-weight subjects (mean weight, 68 kg; mean BMI, 23.0 kg/m2) matched for age. All subjects received a single 5-mg oral dose of vortioxetine once daily for 29 days. Pre-dose plasma vortioxetine concentrations were measured during the 29 days of dosing, and during a 4-week washout period after the last dose. Full 24-hou...
Conclusions Although there is little evidence to support complex polypharmacy in schizophrenia, rates were relatively high in patients requiring hospitalization, especially when they are also diagnosed as having comorbid psychiatric and medical conditions. Future research is needed to study the risk-benefit profile for these patients, especially considering their higher medical burden and related health risks.
Conclusions Comedication with valproic acid accelerated metabolism of clozapine with predominant effects on the degradation of norclozapine. Therapeutic drug monitoring should be applied to guide individual patient responses upon initiation of comedication.
